Privacy Policy
How Exposing Scams collects, uses, and protects your information.
1. Information We Collect
Account details: your real full name (kept private), email or phone number, country code, and a separate public display name. Report data: identifiers you submit, descriptions, dates, and uploaded evidence files. Usage data: search queries, taps, and crash analytics used to improve the Service.
2. How We Use Your Information
To operate the scam database, match new reports to existing profiles, deliver alerts you opt into (watch keywords, follows, risk changes), and verify reports through moderators — which, as part of a thorough and fair review, may include contacting the reported (accused) party using the identifiers you provide so they have a right of reply. We also use your information to keep the community safe from abuse. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
3. Your Real Name vs Display Name
Your real full name is private — it is never shown on your reports, comments, or public profile. Only your display name appears publicly. Moderators can see your real name only when handling disputes or inquiries, and only for the purpose of resolving them. When a moderator contacts a reported party to offer a right of reply, only the report's details and evidence are shared with that party — never your private real name.
4. Evidence Storage & Sharing
Every report must be supported by evidence, which is stored securely. Other users may view evidence through pay-per-view or Pro access, but cannot download or redistribute it. During moderation, a report's details and evidence may also be shared with the reported (accused) party so they can exercise their right of reply — your private real name is never shared. Avoid uploading sensitive personal information (such as full card numbers, passwords, or IDs unrelated to the scam); blurring sensitive details before upload is recommended.
5. Cookies & Local Storage
We use local on-device storage to keep you signed in, remember your theme, and cache reports for offline reading. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
6. Data Retention
Reports and evidence are retained while the profile remains active. You can delete individual reports or your entire account at any time, which removes associated data within 30 days. Backup copies may persist briefly for recovery purposes.
7. Law Enforcement Requests
We may disclose information to law enforcement when required by valid legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Exposing Scams, our users, or the public. We will notify you where legally permitted.
8. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Your Rights & Control
You can edit your profile, change your display name, manage alerts, hide individual reports, and request full account deletion at any time from the Profile screen. You may also export a summary of your reports via the export tool.
10. Security
We use encryption in transit and at rest for stored evidence. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data against unauthorized access.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be highlighted in-app. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
