How to Use the Community Forum

01The forum is not the database

This is the distinction that makes everything else make sense. A report is a claim about a specific identifier, it requires evidence, and it is reviewed by a moderator before anybody else sees it. A forum post is a conversation.

Nothing in the forum has been verified. A thread saying a particular approach is going around is other people's experience, which is genuinely valuable and also not the same kind of thing as a verified report. Read it for the pattern, not for the verdict.

02What it is good for

Three things, mostly.

Approaches too new to be reported — a message shape that is going around this week, which nobody has lost money to yet. Judgement calls, where the facts are not in question but what to do about them is. And the aftermath, which is the part formal reporting handles least well: what people actually said to their bank, what happened next, how long it took.

03How to ask about something without accusing anyone

Describe the approach rather than the person. The technique is the useful part and it is also the part you can substantiate: what the message said, what was asked for, how the payment was meant to happen, what happened when you asked a question.

If you have an identifier and evidence, the report flow is the right place for it — that is what puts it in front of a moderator and, eventually, into the database. Naming somebody in a forum thread with nothing behind it helps nobody and is unfair to a person who may have done nothing.

Apply the same scepticism here you would anywhere else. Posts are moderated for abuse, not fact-checked for accuracy.
